Panama's capital will be the center of international art and culture from April 15 th to May 30 th , as part of the Celebrations this year of the V Centennial of the discovery of the South Sea, reported today the mayor of Panama. The city administration announced efforts to transform the city and its surroundings, which will promote the participation of the people in the First Biennial of the South in Panama 2013 "Summoning Worlds" and the relationship of citizens with art. The First Biennial South in Panama will launched on Friday and will feature about 300 selected artists from 50 countries, who take over the streets of Panama City to express their talent, in a project supported by the business sector. The mayor of Panama highlighted that the artists will reflect on the relationship between violence, economics, water and travel. One of the main activities will be the exhibition of a total of 61 pieces, at the Panama Canal Museum, of the most recent exposition by the legendary Colombian artist Fernando Botero, entitled "The Viacrusis", with texts written by the Spanish historian Kosme de Barañano . Also featured will be the curator José María Díaz-Maroto, National Photography Prize in Alcobendas, Spain. The First Biennial of the South in Panama will present exhibitions which include drawing, painting, sculpture, video, murals and new art forms, as well as workshops in its main venues. The space allocated to national and international artists will be coordinated by the organizing and curatorial committee of the Biennial, with support from the National Institute of Culture.
