This constitutes the largest art exhibition in Central American history

PANAMA CITY, PANAMA - As part of the Celebrations of the V Centennial of the Discovery of the South Sea, the Mayor of Panama will present an event geared towards universal art and culture that seeks to transform the city of Panama and its environment by promoting public participation in an ongoing dialogue and interaction with the world of art.

 

The First Biennial of the South in Panama 2013, "Summoning Worlds", where artists take the city, will be held from April 15 th to May 30 th , 2013 with the participation of 300 selected artists, domestic and foreign, from 50 countries, that with the expression of their art will take over the streets of the capital district.

The space allocated to domestic and international artists will be coordinated by the Organizing and Curatorial Committees of the Biennial, with support from INAC.

The validity and quality of the Biennial counts with the participation of renowned international curators, including Clara Astiasarán, Llilian Yanez, Jose Manuel Noceda and Nelson Herrera who selected a large percentage of the Latin American participants.

The artists will reflect on the relationship between the themes of violence, economy, water and travel.

One of the main attractions of the Biennial is the exhibition at the Museum of the Panama Canal with a total of 61 pieces of the latest Fernando Botero exhibition, entitled "The Viacrucis", with texts written by the Spanish historian Kosme de Barañano. Also featured will be the curator José María Díaz-Maroto, National Photography Prize in Alcobendas, Spain.

The First Biennial of the South in Panama will present at its main venues, exhibitions of drawings, paintings, sculpture, videos, installations, murals, Street Art, performances, Media Art and new Art forms. Additionally there will be interactive workshops aimed at the audience and the community conducted by artists, curators and art experts.

This grand event will democratize culture and bring art to the streets of the capital district for 47 days.
